Between the Towers

City of London Corporation

2023

Bright was initially commissioned to transform the Engine Rooms in 2016, the hidden powerhouse beneath Tower Bridge. Subsequent commissions reimagined both the East and West Walkways inspired by Tower Bridge’s geometry, the exhibition uses dramatic angled panels, a distinctive blue palette, archival imagery and integrated interpretation to frame panoramic views, connecting London’s history, architecture and evolving skyline.

The primary light blue colour palette references the bridge’s exterior, introduced in 1977 to celebrate the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. This distinctive scheme replaced the original chocolate-brown paintwork applied when Tower Bridge first opened in 1894, creating the iconic appearance recognised today.

Working with interpretive writer Anne Fletcher and JAM Creative’s digital team, original archive drawings were transformed into immersive animations that reveal the bridge’s design story in motion, creating a richer visual experience.
