Estate of Grace

Kylemore Abbey and Gardens Trust

2021

Bright partnered with Kylemore Abbey to reimagine its visitor experience through a cohesive exhibition journey blending immersive audio-visual storytelling, restored period interiors and interpretive design. Working closely with the Abbey community, the project unified multiple historical narratives while improving visitor flow and creating a richer understanding of the site’s layered heritage.

The redesigned exhibition carefully balances contemporary interpretation with the Abbey’s historic character, using immersive audio-visual installations in modern gallery spaces before transitioning visitors into more subtle storytelling within authentically restored period rooms.

Kylemore Abbey has undergone several remarkable transformations since it was built as Kylemore Castle in 1868 — from a private Victorian estate and home to wealthy socialites, to a Benedictine monastery established by nuns who fled Belgium after World War I.

“I think what I liked the most about Bright’s work were the small touches which mean there’s so much to discover, we feel a bit like a museum, a bit like a country house and a bit like a visitor experience, which gives us something for everyone.” Eithne O’ Halloran, Abbey Manager.
