A new spirit in a historic setting

The Clydeside Distillery

2017

Bright led the exhibition and interior design for The Clydeside Distillery, creating an immersive visitor experience that celebrates both Scotch whisky and Glasgow’s unique place in its history. Set within the restored Pump House on the banks of the River Clyde, the design combines exhibition, hospitality and retail spaces with artefacts, graphics and audio-visual storytelling to bring the city’s rich whisky heritage to life.

The Clydeside Distillery is located within the restored Pump House that once controlled access to Glasgow’s Queen’s Dock, a key gateway during the city’s industrial and maritime peak. Repurposing this building helped connect the visitor experience directly to Glasgow’s trading and whisky heritage.

Rather than focusing solely on whisky production, the exhibition and interiors were developed to reveal Glasgow’s historic role in shaping the Scotch whisky industry and its international success, using artefacts, graphics and immersive audio-visual storytelling throughout the visitor journey.

Opened in 2017, The Clydeside Distillery became Glasgow’s first dedicated single malt whisky distillery in more than 100 years, bringing whisky making back to a city that was once a major centre of Scotland’s whisky trade and export economy.
