Ballintubber Abbey, founded in 1216, is one of Ireland’s oldest and most historic abbeys. With over 800 years of continuous worship, it has endured the trials and tribulations of Irish history, standing as a powerful symbol of faith, hope, and resilience. Tasked with a brand refresh, we looked to capture the architecture and history embedded within its walls.

The brand mark features a custom designed Romanesque-inspired typeface, drawn directly from the Hiberno-Romanesque architecture of the Abbey. The letterforms carry distinct character, while remaining respectful of the 800 years of history embedded within the Abbey’s walls.

The surrounding landscape is echoed within the colour palette, while the tonal warmth of the system reflects the enduring sense of welcome, hope, and continuity that defines the Abbey’s spirit.
